THE SIGNAL poster & teaser trailer – Laurence Fishburne stars in an AKIRA-esque story

If you haven’t heard about THE SIGNAL, you might not have paid attention to some of the more talked-about films from this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Directed by William Eubank, the trailer (below) gives the impression that the story is similar to something like AKIRA, about a young man who may or may not have acquired mysterious abilities. In the trailer you’ll see Brenton Thwaites as a college kid who gets questioned by Laurence Fishburne (love him in these kinds of roles), including the question of whether or not this boy is even from this planet… that’s definitely a clue that the kid can do things other humans can’t do. Thankfully the teaser trailer keeps things fairly ambiguous, so many of the surprises will be left for those who actually go see it in June. For those wondering, there is apparently no connection between this movie and the horror film THE SIGNAL (2007), which was about a strange audio signal that caused people to go crazy and kill each other. Take a look and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Three college students on a road trip across the Southwest experience a detour; the tracking of a computer genius who has already hacked into MIT and exposed security faults. The trio find themselves drawn to an eerily isolated area when suddenly, everything goes dark. When one of the students, Nic, regains consciousness, he is in a waking nightmare… The Signal stars Brenton Thwaites, Olivia Cooke, Beau Knapp and Laurence Fishburne and is directed by William Eubank.

THE SIGNAL opens on June 13, 2014
