Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL gets a new “full” trailer – Henry Cavill becomes Superman

Comic book fans are getting a lot of glory moments in movie theaters these days. The Marvel films are being cranked out, director Christopher Nolan just finished up THE DARK KNIGHT trilogy, and there’s plenty more funnybook-based flicks in the pipeline. While DC and Warner Brothers have enjoyed the Batman movie success, their only other recent effort with GREEN LANTERN was a bit of a misfire. But next summer may overshadow that if director Zack Snyder can successfully breathe new life into the Superman mythos. MAN OF STEEL sheds the Big Blue Boyscout’s proper name from its title (undoubtedly a direct result of the Siegel and Shuster rights issues) and even changes the hero’s appearance from the classic look we’re all used to, but the end result still looks like good old fashioned superhero greatness. The teaser for the film showed very little, but the new trailer gives us more of an idea of what to expect. We see Henry Cavill as Clark Kent, both bearded and clean shaven, and as Superman of course – plus our first glipse of Michael Shannon as General Zod, Amy Adams as Lois Lane (my one concern of potential miscasting), Russell Crowe as Jor-El, and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White. There’s also brief looks at Christopher Meloni and Richard Schiff. In many ways this new trailer is almost identical to the San Diego Comic-Con trailer (which was excellent) only with a few different shots and different music. Being a huge Superman nut, I’m anxiously awaiting this one with high hopes, but I guess things could go either way. It should be noted that the story was written by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer, and the screenplay was handled by Goyer (who wrote the stories for all three of Nolan’s Batman films). Take a look at the trailer and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

SYNOPSIS: Henry Cavill plays Superman in director Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel.” The film also stars Amy Adams as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Laurence Fishburne as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Starring as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Diane Lane and Kevin Costner.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

MAN OF STEEL is set to hit theaters on June 14, 2013.
