Marc Webb says CHRONICLE’s Dane DeHaan is Harry Osborn in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

It seems like Twitter is becoming the hot place for casting announcements lately. Bryan Singer dropped big news with his post about a few familiar faces returning in X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, and today director Marc Webb has followed that example by announcing who will be playing Harry Osborn in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. Dane DeHaan, who was rather great in CHRONICLE (he’s the guy who goes a little wacky and turns evil), is the new Harry.

In the comics, Harry (the son of Norman Osborn) is best friends with Peter Parker, but eventually becomes The Hobgoblin, following his father Norman becoming The Green Goblin. Sam Raimi’s SPIDER-MAN franchise went in a much different direction with Harry, though still leading him to the ultimately evil path. Personally, I’d love to see The Hobgoblin realized in a big budget big screen production, but chances are this next film will just introduce Harry as a character in Peter’s life – not yet becoming a baddie. DeHaan beat out Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, Boyd Holbrook, Brady Corbet, and Alden Ehrenreich who also read for the role. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are returning as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. Shailene Woodley (THE DESCENDANTS) will also be appearing as a young Mary Jane Watson, and DJANGO UNCHAINED star Jamie Foxx is said to be the main villain, Electro.
