Last year I was lucky enough to interview the great Ernest Borgnine, who sadly passed away summer of this year due to renal failure. I say sadly, though the man definitely lived a full life, and was acting all the way up until the end. He was 95 for God’s sake – that’s an admirable run. During our brief but memorable interview, Ernest told me about the film he had (at the time) just finished called THE MAN WHO SHOOK THE HAND OF VICENTE FERNANDEZ, which was a sort of Western in a nursing home. You could tell he was excited about it, and I’ve been waiting to see more on the project. Well now you can check out two theatrical posters for the movie, and the official trailer, which marks the final on screen performance of a true Hollywood legend. I have a feeling this will be a great film to finish out Borgnine’s acting legacy, and the supporting cast is pretty solid as well. The wonderful Barry Corbin plays Ernest’s nemesis named “Walker”, and Carla Ortiz, Dale Dickey and Tony Plana round out the other roles. The movie is directed by Elia Petridis. One thing Ernie (which he liked to called) said to me was how he wished Hollywood would go back to Westerns, a statement I fully support. This may not be a classic Western in the immediate sense, but it looks like a fun ride nonetheless. Check out the posters above and below (courtesy of IMP) and the trailer, and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
