Trailer for 42 – the Jackie Robinson biopic starring Harrison Ford as Branch Rickey

In 1950 the first black Major League baseball player and sports legend Jackie Robinson played himself in THE JACKIE ROBINSON story, an autobiorgraphical tale that merely scratched the surface on the social and racial issues of his life story. The new movie 42 written and directed by Brian Helgeland (PAYBACK, A KNIGHT’S TALE) may get a little more bold when remembering the historical significance of Jackie’s inclusion in America’s favorite pastime. Chadwick Boseman (Persons Unknown) plays Robinson, and Harrison Ford practically disappears into the role of Branch Rickey – the team executive who believed in Jackie. The film co-stars Alan Tudyk, Christopher Meloni, John C. McGinley, Lucas Black, Ryan Merriman, T.R. Knight, Jud Taylor, and Hamish Linklater. Check out the trailer below. Not sure how to feel about the Jay-Z music being used (something Warner Brothers is doing a LOT in their trailers these days), but most of what’s presented looks good. Perhaps the biggest allure is seeing Ford play such an unusual role, and definitely one that goes against what people are used to seeing him do. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
