Throughout the many years that movies have been made, there have been many great trilogies that work together to tell a great, cinematic story, yet there have been very few trilogies that have had prequel trilogies made for them. The most obvious is, of course, the STAR WARS films. While the films may not have lived up to the quality of the original three, you can still say that it was a very rare occurrence in the film world. Well later this year, another successful and extremely popular trilogy, THE LORD OF THE RINGS, will be getting the first film in its very own prequel trilogy, THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY.
We have seen a few posters for the new film and even one trailer, but now we have a brand-spankin’ new trailer and I couldn’t be more excited. Peter Jackson returns to the world that he so lavishly and perfectly created in the original trilogy to give us fans exactly what we want. There hasn’t been any sort of reinvention of the wheel. The original trilogy worked and Jackson is giving us more of the same and that’s fine. The story and the characters, that’s the draw here (ok, the effects and cinematography are too, but you get my point). What’s really cool about this trailer is, after you watch it, you can head on over to the film’s official website and you can create your own.

Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever… Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities… A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.
THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY is set to hit 2D, 3D and IMAX theaters on December 14, 2012.
