THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY trailer, poster & hi-res image – Peter Jackson returns to THE LORD OF THE RINGS lore

Sometimes, no often, but every now and then Hollywood gives the people EXACTLY what they want. When Peter Jackson announced he was returning for more J.R.R. Tolkien adventures with THE HOBBIT, fans of THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy understandably rejoiced. When it was stated THE HOBBIT would be split into two films, the excitement only grew. We’ve seen a bit here and there from the upcoming first film, but now we’re treated to the first trailer (there’s sure to be more), theatrical poster, and a nice high-resolution image from the film. Check out all three below, starting with the poster:

Love that image, simple yet effective. It lets us know we’re in for more great adventure, and evokes the look and feel of the previous Jackson epics. Up next is an impressive high-resolution image of Martin Freeman as “Bilbo Baggins” ready for adventure. Check it out:

And finally we have the first full trailer below, following the synopsis. I gotta say, this one has me pretty excited. I’m not a super-enthusiastic fan of the LOTR movie trilogy, but I did thoroughly enjoy them, and have no trouble sitting through them again and again. I loved what Jackson did with the books, and how he realized those characters on the big screen. THE HOBBIT is sure to be a visual treat, and it already feels like December 2012 is so very far away. I guess this is how TWILIGHT fans must feel knowing the have to wait an entire year to finish the story they love so much… and no, I’m in NO way comparing the writing of the two tales, just the anticipation factor. Let us know your thoughts on THE HOBBIT in the comments below.

“The Hobbit” follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever … Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.
