HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS international trailer – Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton kick witch butt

In this day of remakes and reboots, how about a new twist on a classic tale? Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton play the classic brother and sister Hansel and Gretel all growns up… and apparently rather tough, especially when it comes to dealing with witches. In some ways, this works brilliantly based on the well-known fable. HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS is directed by Tommy Wirkola, who previously helmed DEAD SNOW, and co-stars Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare, Derek Mears, and Thomas Mann. My biggest fear upon first hearing about the project, and seeing the promotional image, was that it looked and sounded a lot like Terry Gilliam’s THE BROTHERS GRIMM, which I rather disliked. After seeing the new international trailer (below), I can’t say my fears have changed much, but this does look like fun at least. Renner seems to be on a hot streak, and I do love me some Gemma Arterton and Famke Janssen. Give it a look and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters takes place 15 years after the siblings’ incident at the gingerbread house. The two are now specialized bounty hunters looking to put down the cackling black-hat set.

HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS opens January 11, 2013
