Tim Burton’s DARK SHADOWS gets 2 new trailers and 9 new posters!

Tim Burton’s upcoming remake of the gothic soap opera DARK SHADOWS, which aired on TV from 1966-1971, has two brand new trailers as well as 9 brand new character posters (the first poster released is here) showcasing the members of Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) extended family as well as the source of his vampiric nature, the witch Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green).  DARK SHADOWS represents the 8th collaboration of Tim Burton as a director with Johnny Depp as his leading man, and considering almost all of those pairings have scored box office gold, it’s no wonder that the director continues to use him in his movies.  Depp is a tremendously talented character actor who blends himself into his roles and since Johnny himself is a rather dark and mysterious person in real life, there just seems to be a perfect synergy with Burton’s dark, twisted type of story telling.

In DARK SHADOWS, Depp plays Barnabas Collins, an 18th century man who does well with a family business, becoming rich and, in the process, quite the playboy.  He breaks the heart of a witch, Angelique Bouchard, who doesn’t take to kindly to the shallow ways of Mr. Collins.  She turns him into a Vampire, burys him alive and leaves him to think over his ways for all eternity.  Barnabas is accidentally dug up in the year 1972 and he returns to his once-proud manor to find it in ruins.  He there runs into his descendants who are living in the manor and finds out that they are all hiding dark secrets of their own.  He vows to return his company and his home back to its former glory, but he soon finds that his tormentor, the witch Bouchard, is still seeking his heart.

DARK SHADOWS is directed by Tim Burton from a script by Seth Grahme-Smith.  The film stars Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny LeeMiller, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz and Gulliver McGrath.

SYNOPSIS: In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet—or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.

Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth’s ne’er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger’s precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David’s new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

DARK SHADOWS is set to hit theaters on May 11, 2012.
