New movie posters: STAR WARS: EPISODE I – THE PHANTOM MENACE in 3D gets five new poster images

On February 10, 2012, Lucasfilm is releasing STAR WARS: EPISODE I – THE PHANTOM MENACE in 3D, intended to be the first of six 3D treatments of the popular film series… depending on how well the box office returns are this February. EPISODE I was originally released on May 18, 1999, seeing George Lucas returning to the director’s chair 16 years after we had last seen anything concerning STAR WARS on the big screen.  Back in October of 2011 we saw the first theatrical poster for the 3D re-release, and now we’ve got five different new one-sheets to show you.  Reactions to these seem split, some loving the look and feel of them, others feeling the lack inspiration.  I like at least two of the five, but that one Darth Maul giant face with the obviously altered eyes is more than a little off-putting.  He looks a little Asian. And of course the biggest comment everyone seems to have so far is noticing the absence of Jar-Jar… which (let’s face it) makes perfect sense. Check them out for yourself and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
