PROMETHEUS trailer arrives online! Check out the pseudo-ALIEN prequel teaser along with new photos.

Ridley Scott has had a career that many directors would be envious of.  Whether it was starting the infinitely popular ALIEN franchise way back in 1979, showing us the true meaning of friendship and woman-power in THELMA AND LOUISE, getting us excited about a GLADIATOR named Russell Crowe, or blowing our minds with the futuristic BLADE RUNNER, Ridley has a definite library under his belt that only few can accomplish.

When talk of him returning to the franchise that made him famous, many were excited while others were rightfully skeptical.  After some less than stellar sequels (not counting James Cameron’s ALIENS) and a bevy of cross-over sequels that seemed more bent on cashing in on the acid-blooded aliens famously designed by H.R. Giger, many began to wonder if this property should stay as it was, so as to not further dilute the two original masterpieces.  Don’t get me wrong, I actually enjoyed both of the cross-overs with the Predators, a long running mash-up of the two franchises done first in the pages of comic-books, but they were not the same as the originals.  There was something….lacking.

When this project was first announced, it was touted as a prequel, then word was that it was not going to be a prequel, but had morphed (I can’t tell you how hard I fough with myself right there not to use a pun including xenomorph) into it’s own thing.  Finally, it has come out that the movie will stand as a separate story set in the same universe (kind of like the new upcoming BOURNE movie with Jeremy Renner) but will defintely tie into the original series.  Whew, did you get all that?

Now the TEASER trailer is finally here.  What is interesting is that this trailer has had it’s own sort of preview campaign going on as iTunes has been doing preview trailers for the teaser trailer.  Yeah, I know.  I am not sure about this trend and I kind of hope that it doesn’t really catch on because when you start having trailers for trailers,  you have to wonder when it will stop.  I understand it is to build interest, but if you’re marketing campaign is good enough, you don’t need it.  Just look at THE AVENGERS trailer.  It was one of the most downloaded trailers on iTunes, all without the aid of trailers for the trailer.  Ok, enough of my soapbox.

With very little information on the story that comes from this teaser, there is not much other than to see some great, cinematic action and one thing that really got me excited, and yes, I know this is minor considering everything that is going on in the background, but seeing the title of the movie being revealed in the very same manner that ALIEN was revealed actually gave me chills.  So, without further ado, check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments below.
