Teaser trailer for A THOUSAND WORDS starring Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy is back doing adult themed comedy in last week’s TOWER HEIST but next March, he will be back in a more family friendly movie, A THOUSAND WORDS. However, don’t expect this to be a kiddie movie reminiscent of his past movies (I’m looking at you DR. DOOLITTLE) as this movie easily conjures up images of LIAR, LIAR, where a fast talking business man (this time a salesman as opposed to a lawyer) must learn the value of the words he uses.  Jack (Eddie Murphy) is used to getting whatever he wants by saying whatever he feels is necessary, even when most of the time, those words are complete lies.  In the movie, he lies to the wrong guy and instead of a birthday wish by a ticked off son, we see a magical tree that mysteriously sprouts in his backyard that is directly connected to the words he speaks.

I think it is an interesting concept and I loved LIAR, LIAR, so I am interested to see what sort of hijinks he gets into as he tries to deal with work, social situations and his love life while managing the words he uses.  As you can see in the trailer, if the tree loses all its leaves, it will die and since the tree and Jack are now bonded, he too will die.  Imagine how much you talk in a day and how difficult everything would be if you couldn’t utter a single unimportant word because your life depended on it.  What situations would you consider worth 1/1000th of your life for every word you used?

A Thousand Words is directed by Brian Robbins and stars Eddie Murphy, Clark Duke, Kerry Washington and Justina Machado.

SYNOPSIS: Jack McCall is a fast-talking literary agent who can close any deal, any time, any way. He has set his sights on New Age guru Dr. Sinja for his own selfish purposes. But Dr. Sinja is on to him, and Jack’s life comes unglued after a magical Bodhi tree mysteriously appears in his backyard. With every word Jack speaks, a leaf falls from the tree and he realizes that when the last leaf falls, both he and the tree are toast. Words have never failed Jack McCall, but now he’s got to stop talking and conjure up some outrageous ways to communicate or he’s a goner.

A Thousand Words is set to hit theaters on March 23, 2012.
