21 JUMP STREET trailer – the 1980’s TV series becomes an adult buddy cop comedy, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill

Hard to believe the popular television series 21 JUMP STREET first premiered in 1987 – my God has it been that long? But as is frequently the case in Hollywood, what once was old is now new again. The new movie 21 JUMP STREET plays off the basic premise of the series, but adds a much more adult action-comedy feel to it, and changes the formula to more of a buddy comedy rather than a team aspect. The cast includes Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Ice Cube, Ellie Kemper, Brie Larson, Dave Franco, and Rob Riggle… plus a cameo by original TV series star Johnny Depp. Helming the project are CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS co-directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. I will say I laughed a few times watching the new red band trailer, and I actually enjoy the idea of Tatum playing something more comedic. This is also the first time we’re seeing the newer, thinner Jonah Hill on the big screen. We’ll see, I suppose it could work, though there already seems to be a lot of negative feelings toward the film even before the trailer hit. I think audiences are getting tired of reboots. How do you feel about it? Check out the red band trailer below and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier – and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.

21 JUMP STREET opens March 16, 2012
