I remember when the marketing for 2009’s THE FINAL DESTINATION hit, I actually thought to myself “That’s pretty clever, ending the franchise with a perfect title.” Guess they weren’t ending it after all, as today we’re treated to a trailer for FINAL DESTINATION 5. I must admit, there’s something pretty effectively creepy about these films, the concept that death will not allow you to cheat it for very long, and sooner or later everyone conveniently is going to get it. Plus my man Tony Todd is back in this one, and I’ll see just about anything that guy does. It’s also cool to see the usually comedic David Koechner playing a part, though from the looks of the trailer he doesn’t fare very well. I should also note I’ve always been sensitive about stuff involving people’s eyes, and the opening of this trailer is pretty nightmarish, even without knowing the end result. Steven Quale directs, with a cast featuring Emma Bell, Nicholas D’Agosto, Miles Fisher, Arlen Escarpeta, PJ Byrne, and Courtney B. Vance. Check it out below and tell us your thoughts in the comments. Is this the next SAW franchise? One that will seemingly never end?

In this fifth installment, Death is just as omnipresent as ever, and is unleashed after one man’s premonition saves a group of coworkers from a terrifying suspension bridge collapse. But this group of unsuspecting souls was never supposed to survive, and, in a terrifying race against time, the ill-fated group frantically tries to discover a way to escape Death’s sinister agenda. The new victims of Death’s plan are part of a cast led by Emma Bell (Frozen, TV’s “The Walking Dead”) and Nick D’Agosto (Fired Up!, TV’s “Heroes”). The film is being shot on location in Vancouver, Canada. The second of the “Final Destination” films to be shot in 3-D, Final Destination 5 is being directed by Steve Quale, marking his major feature film directorial debut.

FINAL DESTINATION 5 opens on August 12, 2011
