Director Zack Snyder’s SUCKER PUNCH opens today in the U.S., which is like a live action dream come true for every video game and comic book nerd out there… and I can say that, because I fall into that category. I do think it’s safe to say that the wild visuals shown in the theatrical trailer set a pretty ambitious expectation on the audience, and the end result is likely going to be very polarizing. Last year at San Diego Comic-Con, one of the many press junkets I got to participate in was an international conference for SUCKER PUNCH, which featured Zack Snyder and producer/wife Deborah Snyder, plus cast members Carla Gugino, Jamie Chung, Emily Browning, Jena Malone, and Vanessa Hudgens. Not because of how long ago this was, some of the answers were a little more purposely cryptic, since little was known about the film at the time – you’ll notice the posters sitting behind them, which were the only posters in circulation at the time, simply featured the logo and nothing more. But all that said it’s still interesting hearing some of the responses the panel gives, and always funny when one of the attending talent gets an slightly embarassing phone call in the middle of the session. In the 24-minute video below you’ll hear (sometimes faintly) several questions from the press, ending with me getting the final few questions. Born and raised in Dallas, Mark has been a movie critic since 1994, with reviews featured in print, radio and National TV. In 2001 he started the Entertainment section of the Herorealm website, where he contributed film reviews and celebrity interviews until 2004. After three years of service there, he started Bigfanboy.com, which has become one of the Dallas film community's leading information websites. Bigfanboy hosts several movie screenings in the Texas area, and works closely with film and TV studios and promotional partners to host exciting events and contests. The site also features a variety of rare celebrity and filmmaker interviews, and Bigfanboy.com regularly covers the film festival circuit as well. In addition to Hollywood reporting, Mark has worked for many years as an advertising and sci-fi/comic book artist. Clients have included Lucasfilm Ltd., Topps Trading Cards, The Dallas Mavericks and The Dallas Stars. From 2002 until 2015 he managed the Dallas Comic Con, Sci-Fi Expo and Fan Days events in the DFW area. He currently catalogs rare comic books and movie memorabilia for Heritage Auctions, and runs the Dallas Comic Show conventions, but remains an avid moviegoer and cinema buff.
