See Adrianne Palicki in full WONDER WOMAN television costume

This time last month we announced that Adrianne Palicki (of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and LONE STAR fame) had been cast as the lead in David E. Kelley’s WONDER WOMAN television reboot.  Today we get our first look at the curvy actress in costume, courtesy of EW.  While I like the character of Wonder Woman in the comics, and I really like Adrianne Palicki, there’s just something a little awkward about this outfit.  Where do I start?  The bustier seems a little to boosty, the pants look all kinds of wrong, and the boots REALLY should have been the traditional red color instead of blue… then there’s Adrianne’s hair, which looks the most out of place.  Maybe I’m just used to seeing her as a blond, but the dark hair appears strange on her.  Then again, all of this may end up translating really well on TV, and I’m sure the production team went through a lot of ideas before settling on this design.

Still, I can’t help but be nostalgic and miss the classic Lynda Carter style, which overcame any other possible childhood crush I could have had.

I have a feeling a lot of comic book enthusiasts are going to rise up against this new incarnation, now more than ever since the look of the classic DC Comics character has been altered so drastically.  But I’m willing to give it a chance, partly because I trust David E. Kelley, and partly because the cast interests me.  The new show co-stars Elizabeth Hurley (AUSTIN POWERS: INTERNATIONAL MAN OF MYSTERY) and Cary Elwes (THE PRINCESS BRIDE, SAW).  What are your thoughts?  Do you like the design, and are you looking forward to the new NBC series?  Tell us in the comments.

The series pilot is a reinvention of the iconic DC Comics title in which Wonder Woman – a.k.a. Diana Prince – is a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life. Kelley and Bill D’Elia (“Boston Legal,” “The Practice”) are the executive producers. The pilot was written by Kelley and will be directed by Jeffrey Reiner (NBC’s “The Event”). “Wonder Woman” is from David E. Kelley Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
