The last two PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN films weren’t anywhere near as pleasing at the initial outing, but that hasn’t stopped Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer from giving it another go, despite the dropping of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley from the cast. But hey, as long as Johnny Depp is on the big screen as Jack Sparrow, everything is cool, right? Let’s hope. I for one HATED that third movie, almost as much as I disliked THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS… and that’s a lot. I’m willing to give the PIRATES franchise another chance, but there’s also the added potential problem that this new outing may be the first of a new trilogy of films. Are we really ready for three more movies with Jack Sparrow? Time will tell. Check out the new featurette below, which explains the characters in the new film, including the obvious question of what Barbossa’s role (played once again by the great Geoffrey Rush) is this time around. Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed adventure. Crossing paths with the enigmatic Angelica (Penelope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love—or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the “Queen Anne’s Revenge,” the ship of the legendary pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know whom to fear more: Blackbeard or Angelica, with whom he shares a mysterious past. Born and raised in Dallas, Mark has been a movie critic since 1994, with reviews featured in print, radio and National TV.
