Trailer for Joseph Kahn’s wildly awesome DETENTION

One of the films I’m looking forward to big time at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival is director Joseph Kahn’s DETENTION. Oddly enough it’s not because of the impressive cast, which includes Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook, Shanley Caswell, Spencer Locke, Aaron David Johnson, Walter Perez, Erica Shaffer, Parker Bagley and Alison Woods. It’s mainly because this movie looks like something truly unique and crazy cool, and most importantly unlike anything else currently out there. It’s written by Joseph Kahn and Mark Palermo, but little is known about the particulars, outside of the plot synopsis below. Take one look at the trailer and tell me you’re not intrigued as well. I have a feeling this will be one of the most memorable selections of SXSW 2011.

Detention is a teen horror-comedy where the local students of Grizzly Lake must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is a slasher movie killer who has seemingly come to life. It becomes a race against time to stop the killer and save the world – if only they can get out of detention. The Detention cuts through prom. Most of them don’t have dates anyway.
