Many people out there, including myself, have given Channing Tatum a hard time as an actor. His rather stiff performances in movies like G.I.JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA, STEP UP, and the even more incredible STEP UP 2: THE STREETS haven’t helped, and I’ve even made the statement that Tatum is an example of my saying “product of Hollywood” – an actor that is forced down out throats despite no one ever really wanting to see them in movies, simply because Hollywood wants to brand them as a bankable star… I’m looking at you too, Sam Worthington. However, the new movie THE EAGLE may just be the proving stage Channing Tatum so desperately needs. With director Kevin Macdonald (THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND) at the helm, and the always entertaining Jamie Bell co-starring, this period sword and sandals piece may give Tatum a chance to show exactly what he’s capable of when a good script and good people are surrounding him.
The Roman epic adventure is set in 140 AD, two men – master and slave – venture beyond the edge of the known world on a dangerous and obsessive quest that will push them beyond the boundaries of loyalty and betrayal, friendship and hatred, deceit and heroism.
The film also features the great Donald Sutherland. Sound good to you? Is this a movie you’d check out with enthusiasm? Are you already a hardcore Channing Tatum fan, and appalled I’d suggest his acting was anything but exemplary? Tell us in the comments below!
THE EAGLE opens February 25, 2011
Channing Tatum is a good actor, he has so much potential if given the right part. I was wanting to get some pre-screening tickets for the movie The Eagle if you give any away. Thank you
