WARRIORS OF THE WASTELAND (1982)
After Mad Max, there was a slew of Post-apocalyptic films in the early 80s. Most of them sent from foreign markets. This one is one of the early ones. Also known as “THE NEW BARBARIANS,” WARRIORS OF THE WASTELAND follow the remnants of humanity scouring the earth to survive. Humans are being hunted down by a group called “THE TEMPLARS,” who claim to want to punish all of humanity (even themselves) for causing Earth’s destruction. We mainly follow a guy named SCORPION, an Italian version of SNAKE PLISSKIN, only not bada$$. He teams up with Fred Williamson… A post-apocalypse movie staple actor and the only name actor we in the USA would know. The basic movie ensues.
For a low budget, 80’s foreign “capture what is hot” type of movie, its watchable. An excellent soundtrack of synth and what sounds akin to Tangerine Dream/early Pink Floyd music. Its what you’d expect. But be warned, toward the end, there’s an implied man on man rape scene. So if you can stomach that, and you like post apocalyptic films, give this a try. Its not spectacular, but it is passable. Fred Williamson would go on to do one of my favorite post-apocalyptic films: WARRIOR OF THE LOST WORLD, 2 years later. He proves time and time again, that he’s one bad mamma-jamma!
