RED SONJA trailer – Matilda Lutz stars as the ruthless sword-wielding warrior

Born from the Conan The Barbarian comic books, Red Sonja has already had one big screen adaptation in the 80s which featured Brigitte Nielsen in the title role. Robert Rodriguez was at one point going to do his take featuring Rose McGowan, and that effort even got a poster, though the movie never came to fruition. We’re now getting a new take from Samuel Goldwyn Pictures, and while I am a fan of the character, I’m not sure this trailer does a very good job of selling the film… it’s an over-edited mess, hard to even tell what’s going on. Directed by MJ Bassett, this new RED SONJA stars Matilda Lutz (REVENGE) in the title role, along with Martyn Ford, Robert Sheehan, Wallis Day, Michael Bisping, Philip Winchester, Trevor Eve, Luca Pasqualino, and Rhona Mitra. Take a look at the first trailer below and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Enslaved by an evil tyrant who wishes to destroy her people, barbarian huntress Red Sonja must unite a group of unlikely warriors to face off against Dragan The Magnificent and his deadly bride, Dark Annisia.

RED SONJA is in theaters August 15 and on digital platforms August 29, 2025
