If you’re hungry for new Marvel Studios movies, this year should deliver quite a bit for ya. We’ve already got CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD, and up next in May get ready for THUNDERBOLTS*, which is looking a lot like Marvel’s answer to the SUICIDE SQUAD. The cast includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Lewis Pullman as Robert Reynolds / Sentry, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov / Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr / Ghost, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker / U.S. Agent, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Geraldine Viswanathan as Songbird, and Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff. In the comics, The Thunderbolts are very similar to the Suicide Squad in many ways, a collection of highly-skilled side characters and rejects put together as a team, though you may notice the asterisk in the title, and the word “assemble” in the trailers – there is some suspicion that this team will eventually become “The Dark Avengers”, perhaps even at the film’s conclusion… and the Dark Avengers are in fact a team represented in Marvel Comics as well. This is directed by Jake Schreier (STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW) and hits theaters in May of 2025. Check out the new final trailer below and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
Born and raised in Dallas, Mark has been a movie critic since 1994, with reviews featured in print, radio and National TV. Clients have included Lucasfilm Ltd., Topps Trading Cards, The Dallas Mavericks and The Dallas Stars. From 2002 until 2015 he managed the Dallas Comic Con, Sci-Fi Expo and Fan Days events in the DFW area. He currently catalogs rare comic books and movie memorabilia for Heritage Auctions, and runs the Dallas Comic Show conventions, but remains an avid moviegoer and cinema buff.
