Marvel Studios really knows how to make Hall H panels work at San Diego Comic-Con, with some pretty historic announcements happening almost every year, making fans salivate waiting for the end results. This year was a doozy. Opening with a full choir signing Madonna’s “Like A Prayer” while costumed Deadpools danced through the crowd in honor of DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE‘s monumental opening, things only got more exciting from there. Producer and Marvel Studios mastermind Kevin Feige joined DEADPOOL star Rob Delaney on stage to introduce and get quotes from the various casts of their upcoming movies.
First up was CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD, which recently revealed its first trailer ahead of its February 2025 release. Stars Anthony Mackie, Giancarlo Esposito, Danny Ramirez, Tim Blake Nelson and the one and only Harrison Ford took the stage, showing fans a sneak preview clip which confirmed Ford does in fact become the Red Hulk in the movie… and Ford himself even acted out “Hulking out” when he took the stage. Another big reveal was Esposito finally telling the audience the character he’s playing… Sidewinder, the head of The Serpent Society. This is a character first introduced in the comics in Marvel Two-In-One, and later became a recurring foil for Captain America. CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD opens February 14, 2025.
Next up was THUNDERBOLTS, which was kicked off with actor David Harbour walking through the crowd in costume and in character as Red Guardian, ending with a joke about why the rest of the cast didn’t dress up too. Cast members Florence Pugh, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Lewis Pullman. Not many big takeaways there, but lots of praise from the actors for Florence Pugh, so we can probably expect a memorable performance from her in the film. THUNDERBOLTS opens May 5, 2025
Next up was FANTASTIC FOUR which revealed the full title of THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS. Cast members Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Eben Moss-Bachrach took the stage, along with director Matt Shakman (WANDAVISION), and fans were treated to some concept footage of what the finished film may look like, including a tease of the team encountering Galactus. They also flew out the Fantasticar over the stage. Shakman stressed that while the movie is set in the 1960’s, it is a futuristic take on that era, so expect a 60s aesthetic with high tech gadgets. The movie opens July 25, 2025.
And finally, Kevin Feige brought out Joe and Anthony Russo to the stage, the writing and directing duo responsible for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and AVENGERS: ENDGAME. Looks like the boys are officially back with Marvel Studios, and set to release not one but TWO new AVENGERS movies, titled AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY (opening May 2026) and AVENGERS: SECRET WARS (opening May 2027). But the biggest surprise of all was the reveal of who is playing Doctor Doom in these films, none other than Robert Downey Jr. – that’s right, the man who brought Iron Man to life is back, only not as Tony Stark. Joe Russo did hint that the multiverse may be part of the “how” this is happening, but also noted Downey is playing Victor Von Doom. And Downey really seemed to love being on stage for the big reveal, disguised in Doctor Doom regalia, complete with a mask. He states “New mask… same task.”
