Patton Oswalt is a highly successful comedian, but from time to time shows everyone how great of an actor he can be. The new movie I LOVE MY DAD is said to be a dramatic and darkly comedic retelling of writer/director/star James Morosini real life events with his father. It also perhaps serves as a commentary on how some parents and children have a hard time staying “connected” on an emotional level. As you’ll see in the trailer, this leans heavily on the cringe factor of the story, but also looks like it could be quite hilarious. The supporting cast includes Claudia Sulewski, Amy Landecker, Rachel Dratch, and Lil Rey Howery. This premiered earlier this year at SXSW, and met with strong reviews. Take a look at the trailer and see if you aren’t intrigued.

Inspired by writer, director, and star James Morosini’s true life experience, “I Love My Dad” follows Chuck (Patton Oswalt), a hopelessly estranged father who desperately wants to reconnect with his troubled son, Franklin (Morosini). Blocked on social media and concerned for his son’s life, Chuck impersonates a waitress online and starts checking in with Franklin. But things begin to spiral when Franklin falls for this imaginary girl (Claudia Sulewski) and wants nothing more than to meet her in person, as Chuck has inadvertently catfished his own son.

I LOVE MY DAD hits theaters on August 5th followed by VOD starting on August 12, 2022
