One of the many exciting upcoming Warner Bros. releases previewed at DC Fandome over the weekend was BLACK ADAM, a lightning-based character closely connected to SHAZAM!, only not at all the same kind of hero. Dwayne Johnson is not only connected to star in the film, he’s also been a big champion of the project and loves the source material enough to give it a big personal push. Last fall we got a sneak peek at what to expect from BLACK ADAM in a concept reel, and people got even more excited when it was revealed that none other than Pierce Brosnan had joined the cast as the classic Justice Society of America superhero, Dr. Fate. Then we learned Aldis Hodge is playing Hawkman! And today we finally get to see an actual scene from the movie.
The story of the film involves Black Adam involves the same wizards who gave powers to Shazam!, only those fellas felt Adam was just a little too dark for their support, so they lock him away. Eventually he breaks out of his prison, and is pursued by the Justice Society Of America featuring Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. And yes, there is a definitive bad guy in the story played by Marwan Kenzari. The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, which began production this past April.
