It’s been a few years since we’ve had a film offering from Paul Thomas Anderson, but now he’s back with LICORICE PIZZA, his ninth movie that revolves around a high school student becoming an actor in the 1970s. Shades of BOOGIE NIGHTS perhaps, but this almost feels more like DAZED AND CONFUSED than anything else. One of the big selling points here could be the lead role played by Cooper Hoffman, son of the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman, who was a frequent collaborator with Anderson. The cast also include Bradley Cooper, John C. Reilly, Tom Waits, Maya Rudolph, Sean Penn, Benny Safdie, Emma Dumont, Skyler Gisondo, and Alana Haim (of the band Haim). Born and raised in Dallas, Mark has been a movie critic since 1994, with reviews featured in print, radio and National TV. From 2002 until 2015 he managed the Dallas Comic Con, Sci-Fi Expo and Fan Days events in the DFW area. He currently catalogs rare comic books and movie memorabilia for Heritage Auctions, and runs the Dallas Comic Show conventions, but remains an avid moviegoer and cinema buff.
