Dwayne Johnson’s BLACK ADAM is now scheduled for a Summer 2022 release, Pierce Brosnan joins

With the Zack Snyder cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE hitting HBO Max a few weeks back, and the recent release of WONDER WOMAN 1984, folks have been wondering what’s next for the DC Comics universe on the big screen. One of the upcoming Warner Bros. releases is BLACK ADAM, a lightning-based character closely connected to SHAZAM!, only not at all the same kind of hero. Dwayne Johnson is not only connected to star in the film, he’s also been a big champion of the project and loves the source material enough to give it a big personal push. Last fall we got a sneak peek at what to expect from BLACK ADAM in a concept reel, which you can see below in case you missed it. And in the past few days news hit that none other than Pierce Brosnan had joined the cast as the classic Justice Society of America superhero, Dr. Fate. Now we know when to expect BLACK ADAM to hit theaters, as WB has unveiled the intended release date of the film – July 29, 2022. Johnson posted the info on his Instagram on Sunday along with the message “A disruptive and unstoppable global force of a message from the man in black himself… The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change.”

The story of the film involves Black Adam involves the same wizards who gave powers to Shazam!, only those fellas felt Adam was just a little too dark for their support, so they lock him away. Eventually he breaks out of his prison, and is pursued by the Justice Society Of America featuring Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. And yes, there is a definitive bad guy in the story played by Marwan Kenzari. The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, which is scheduled to start production in Atlanta this April.
