I’m a bit of an M. Night Shyamalan apologist, as while he’s made some less-than-stellar movies, he’s also made some rather incredible films that have stood the test of time. UNBREAKABLE is still, in my opinion, one of the best superhero movies ever made. And I love SIGNS and THE SIXTH SENSE, and SPLIT… and THE VISIT. But it’s hard to forget some of those failed efforts like AFTER EARTH, THE LAST AIRBENDER, THE HAPPENING and the very disappointing GLASS. Among the expensive Super Bowl spots this year was OLD, which honestly looks more like a movie trailer parody than an actual movie, but apparently it’s real. The 30-second commercial doesn’t explain much, but seems to show a family visiting an island, a mother and father and their kids, and at some point the kids rapidly age. What on that island is making this happen, and why? I guess we’ll find out. Seriously though, look at the recent Taco Bell “Nacho Fries” movie trailer parodies, and tell me this doesn’t look almost exactly like that. As it turns out, OLD is actually based on the comic graphic novel titled “Sandcastle” wby Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peeters. The cast includes Gael García Bernal, Eliza Scanlen, Thomasin McKenzie, Aaron Pierre, Alex Wolff, Vicky Krieps, Abbey Lee, Embeth Davidtz, and Rufus Sewell. Check out the spot below and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
This summer, visionary filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan unveils a chilling, mysterious new thriller about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly … reducing their entire lives into a single day.
