With Covid-19 pretty much destroying movie theater business and redefining how Hollywood makes movies, it was only a matter of time before we got a movie in which Coronavirus played a major role… but dang was this fast! SONGBIRD imagines a future in which Covid-19 is now “Covid-23”, has killed hundreds of millions, and had forced people to lock themselves in at home, alone, and self-test using their phones on a regular basis. And if you get too hot or feverish, they come for you and take you away. Oh, and the virus now has the ability to alter people’s behavior too. So you have a young man named Nico (KJ Apa) that is somehow immune to the virus, and the object of his affection named Sara (Sofia Carson), who is stuck in her high-rise apartment, and the two of them must communicate by phone. When Sara’s safety is threatened, Nico tries desperately to get to her, against incredible odds. Oddly enough, this film (produced by Michael Bay) was at one point shut down when it began shooting earlier this year, due to SAG stopping all work in the Los Angeles area. Makes you wonder, how quickly did they write this?!? The cast also includes Bradley Whitford, Demi Moore, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Walter Hauser, Craig Robinson, and Peter Stormare. This one is sure to be a bit controversial, but one can only wonder if audiences will ‘want’ to see a movie like this right now. While I think the concept is interesting, I’m not sure how I feel about it just yet… check out the trailer and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
In the terrifying thriller Songbird, the COVID-23 virus has mutated and the world is in its fourth year of lockdown. Infected Americans are ripped from their homes and forced into quarantine camps known as Q-Zones, from which there is no escape, as a few brave souls fight back against the forces of oppression. Amid this dystopian landscape, a fearless courier, Nico (KJ Apa), who’s immune to the deadly pathogen, finds hope and love with Sara (Sofia Carson), though her lockdown prohibits them from physical contact. When Sara is believed to have become infected, Nico races desperately across the barren streets of Los Angeles in search of the only thing that can save her from imprisonment… or worse.
