The new movie MONSTER HUNTER has been a passion project for writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson for almost a decade now, and actually started filming two years ago. Re-teaming him with his wife and RESIDENT EVIL franchise star Milla Jovovich, the cast also includes Tony Jaa (his second big trailer this week!), T.I., Ron Perlman, Meagan Good, and Diego Boneta. This movie was actually scheduled for an April release this year, but like many of the cinematic casualties this year, Covid-19 caused Sony Pictures to push the release back a bit, and they’re now hoping for a December theatrical release… unless of course Coronavirus gets even worse between now and then. For those unfamiliar, MONSTER HUNTER is actually an immensely successful RPG video game from Capcom, who also gave us RESIDENT EVIL, so this is definitely familiar territory on all sides for both Anderson and Jovovich.
Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Captain Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower. In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown. Based on the global video game series phenomenon Monster Hunter, the film is written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat).
Born and raised in Dallas, Mark has been a movie critic since 1994, with reviews featured in print, radio and National TV. In 2001 he started the Entertainment section of the Herorealm website, where he contributed film reviews and celebrity interviews until 2004. From 2002 until 2015 he managed the Dallas Comic Con, Sci-Fi Expo and Fan Days events in the DFW area. He currently catalogs rare comic books and movie memorabilia for Heritage Auctions, and runs the Dallas Comic Show conventions, but remains an avid moviegoer and cinema buff.
