The 2016 SUICIDE SQUAD movie was a pretty interesting experiment for the DC Comics / Warner Bros. superhero movies, taking a comic book that puts supervillains together as a team, and forcing them to work for the government. The comic it’s based on has always been a fan-favorite, but it’s hard to imagine it translating, and the film was met with mixed reactions. One thing it did do is establish Margot Robbie as the very popular character Harley Quinn, even leading to her getting her own movie… also with mixed results, though I rather enjoyed it. Now, we’re getting a second dose of the Suicide Squad mythos with THE SUICIDE SQUAD next year, a sort-of sequel that brings back a few familiar faces, but introduces several new ones. DC scooped up director James Gunn after Marvel temporarily fired him due to some social media controversy – Gunn has since be forgiven and is directing another GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY movie next for Marvel, so consider this a sort of side gig, but a BIG one. Thanks to DC Fandome, we’re getting our first look at THE SUICIDE SQUAD, which finally reveals the impressive cast featuring Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Joel Kinnaman, John Cena, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Michael Rooker, Flula Borg, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Steve Agee, Mayling Ng, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Storm Reid, Taika Waititi, Joaquín Cosío, and Juan Diego Botto. While I’m not a huge fan of the first film, this looks crazy enough to be worth a look, and I’m always intrigued by Gunn’s work. I also love that they’re going for a 1970s war movie feel here, even delivering a 70s-esque poster to tease the film.

Here’s who you can expect to see in the movie – Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Colonel Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, David Dastmalchian as Polka Dot Man, Michael Rooker as Savant, Flula Borg as Javelin, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Steve Agee as King Shark, Mayling Ng as Mongal, Peter Capaldi as Thinker, Alica Braga as Solsoria, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Sean Gunn as Weasel, Juan Diego Botto as Presidente General Silvio Luna, Joaquín Cosío as Major General Suarez, and Storm Reid as Bloodsport’s daughter Tyla.
