Crime noir is a sort of sub-genre that occasionally manifests itself in some really good films… and perhaps a few bad ones. The new thriller THE DEVIL ALL THE TIME might just be a cult classic in the making, as it’s already boasting a rather incredible cast. Tom Holland (SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME) headlines an ensemble that includes Robert Pattinson (he’s in a LOT lately!), Jason Clarke, Riley Keough, Sebastian Stan, Bill Skarsgård, Mia Wasikowska, Harry Melling, Eliza Scanlen, Haley Bennett, and Pokey Lafarge. Directed by Antonio Campos (CHRISTINE), this is an adaptation of Donald Ray Pollock’s book (featuring the same title) and actually takes place over two decades. Netflix may have a strong contender for awards season if this plays as good as it looks, but at this point we’re not even sure what “awards season” will be. Did we mention it’s produced by Jake Gyllenhaal? Because it’s produced by Jake Gyllenhaal. Take a look at the trailer and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
In Knockemstiff, Ohio and its neighboring backwoods, sinister characters — an unholy preacher (Robert Pattinson), twisted couple (Jason Clarke and Riley Keough), and crooked sheriff (Sebastian Stan) — converge around young Arvin Russell (Tom Holland) as he fights the evil forces that threaten him and his family. Spanning the time between World War II and the Vietnam war, director Antonio Campos’ THE DEVIL ALL THE TIME renders a seductive and horrific landscape that pits the just against the corrupted.
