It’s almost hard to believe the Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro (and Joe Pesci) haven’t worked together since CASINO… that was 1995! Thanks to Netflix’s THE IRISHMAN, they’re reunited, and joined by the great Al Pacino playing Jimmy Hoffa. The movie is based on the Frank Sheeran (aka “The Irishman”) book titled “I Heard You Paint Houses”, with De Niro playing Sheeran in the film. The supporting cast is nothing to sneeze at either, featuring Harvey Keitel, Ray Romano, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Paquin, Stephen Graham, Stephanie Kurtzuba, Jack Huston, Kathrine Narducci, and Jesse Plemons. And since the film takes place over multiple decades, we’ll be seeing digitally-enhanced on the actors to make them look younger when necessary. We’ve seen this done quite well in other recent films, so it should be interesting to see how Scorsese implements it. Take a look at the new trailer below and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
The Irishman is an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.
