If for some reason you haven’t seen HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON or its sequel, please stop what you’re doing and fix that now. As animated features, they’re some of the very best done in the past decade. Director Dean DeBlois is about to deliver the highly-anticipated third installment to theaters next February, which is still a bit away, but that hasn’t stopped Dreamworks Animation from giving us a trailer and poster or two to hold us over until opening weekend, and now we get our first clip to ready get us set to go. This time around, Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless discover a hidden world with mysterious dragons, including a White Fury, which is the female counterpart to Toothless… and of course a potential love interest. As we see in the trailer, this leads to Hiccup amusingly trying to Cyrano De Bergerac his winged pal in a courting session. But there’s more at foot here, including a hunter named Grimmel the Grisly (F. Murray Abraham) that hopes to wipe out all Night Fury dragons, like our dear Toothless. Along with Baruchel, franchise voices of America Ferrera, Cate Blanchett, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are back, joined by GAME OF THRONES own Kit Harington, and there may be a few surprises not yet revealed. As I’ve told Dean, who I’m honored to know, there’s something about these movies that really gets to me on an emotional level. Even in this trailer, seeing Hiccup with a beard, I got a little choked up. The relationship and friend dynamic between Hiccup and Toothless is cinematic gold, and I cannot wait to see more of it on the big screen. Check out the HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD clip below and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
Now chief and ruler of Berk alongside Astrid, Hiccup has created a gloriously chaotic dragon utopia. When the sudden appearance of a female Light Fury coincides with the darkest threat their village has ever faced, Hiccup and Toothless must leave the only home they’ve known and journey to a hidden world thought only to exist in myth. As their true destines are revealed, dragon and rider will fight together—to the very ends of the Earth—to protect everything they’ve grown to treasure.
