When THE EQUALIZER hit theaters in 2014, it became somewhat of a surprise hit. Based on the TV show, though very different, it starred Denzel Washington as retired CIA operative Robert McCall who tried to keep a low profile working in a hardware store, only to be drawn into a fight with crime boss… a very violent fight. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the first film was a nice bit of tough guy cinema, and Washington really sold the character with some amazing action scenes. In this day of sequels and reboots, we now get THE EQUALIZER 2, which has Denzel back as McCall (the first sequel of his career!), this time finding himself on a mission of revenge when his friend is murdered. The supporting cast includes Ashton Sanders, Pedro Pascal, Melissa Leo and Bill Pullman. Fuqua is also back in the director’s chair. Check out the new trailer below and tell us your thoughts in the comments. What a missed opportunity not calling this THE SEQUELIZER… okay, I’ll see myself out.

Denzel Washington returns to one of his signature roles in the first sequel of his career. Robert McCall serves an unflinching justice for the exploited and oppressed – but how far will he go when that is someone he loves?

THE EQUALIZER 2 opens July 20, 2018
