David Lowery is quickly becoming one of the greatest directors working today… actually, he may already be just that. His last movie, A GHOST STORY, may have been polarizing for some, but if you “got” it you really appreciated it. I also thought his update of PETE’S DRAGON was an exceptional throwback to a more classic era of filmmaking suitable for the whole family. Lowery’s newest is THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN, which reunites him with legendary actor Robert Redford for a true story set in the 1970s. Redford plays Forrest Tucker, who escaped from San Quentin at 70 years of age, and followed that feat with robbing a few banks. And if you forgot just how charming and likable Bob Redford can be, this trailer should do a great job of reminding you. The cast also includes Sissy Spacek, Casey Affleck, Danny Glover, Tom Waits, Tika Sumpter, and the great Tom Waits. Out of all the movies hitting this year, this may one that I’m currently most excited to see. Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN is based on the true story of Forrest Tucker (Robert Redford), from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public. Wrapped up in the pursuit are detective John Hunt (Casey Affleck), who becomes captivated with Forrest’s commitment to his craft, and a woman (Sissy Spacek), who loves him in spite of his chosen profession.
