CHARLIE’S ANGELS is returning to TV – SMALLVILLE creators hired for it

If you’ve been missing CHARLIE’S ANGELS on television, or just couldn’t get enough from the two big-budget McG films, not to worry – ABC is going to reboot the popular franchise for an all-new TV series.  According to TheHollywoodReporter, they’ve hired SMALLVILLE executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar for the project, being helmed by Sony Pictures Television.  They’re saying ABC is developing this for a potential pilot order and midseason launch.  Gough and Millar started SMALLVILLE together, running it for seven seasons before departing in 2008.  Their movie credits include SHANGHAI NOON and THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR.  The series is said to be produced by (none other than theatrical Angel) Drew Barrymore, along with Leonard Goldberg and Nancy Juvonen, all of whom produced the two McG movies.  Goldberg executive produced the original 1976-1981 series.

Classic television is definitely in the revamp crosshairs right now, as CBS is introducing a new HAWAII 5-0 series, and there’s talk of several more remakes currently going on.  THR notes that last week the CW network announced the upcoming 10th season of SMALLVILLE will be the final of the series.  Think we’ll finally get to see Clark in the Superman outfit?  Why not?!?

I actually liked the CHARLIE’S ANGELS movies.  Sure, they were ridiculous and over-the-top, but they were also fun and funny to watch.  To be honest, I was kind of hoping there would be at least one more in the film series, but if this new series definitely happens, you can probably kiss any hope of a theatrical trilogy goodbye.  There’s already been two different CHARLIE’S ANGELS-esque shows on TV in recent years, Pamela Anderson’s V.I.P. and the underrated (in my opinion) Natasha Henstridge show SHE SPIES.  Now the question is who will be the new Angels?  I’m betting Ali Larter is among the potential choices.  Eliza Dushku would be a good contender as well.  Who do you think should kick butt while looking gorgeous?  Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
