Jack Black and Cate Blanchett lead the cast of THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS, which includes Owen Vaccaro as orphan “Lewis Barnavelt” who gets more than he bargained for when moving in with his uncle. This based on the classic 1973 book by John Bellairs, adapted by screenwriter Eric Kripke (SUPERNATURAL), and released by Steven Speilberg’s Amblin Entertainment… but what’s most surprising is who directed it, none other than Eli Roth, the man who gave us the very violent CABIN FEVER, HOSTEL, and most recently the DEATH WISH remake. The cast also includes Kyle McLachlan, Colleen Camp, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Vanessa Anne Williams and Sunny Suljic. Take a look at the first trailer below, which sadly suffers the annoying issue of showing key scenes in the trailer before the trailer actually starts. I’m intrigued with the Eli Roth factor, as this could show a very different or at least unexpected side for the notable horror director. Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

In the tradition of Amblin classics where fantastical events occur in the most unexpected places, Jack Black and two-time Academy Award® winner Cate Blanchett star in THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS, from Amblin Entertainment. The magical adventure tells the spine-tingling tale of 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart. But his new town’s sleepy façade jolts to life with a secret world of warlocks and witches when Lewis accidentally awakens the dead.
