Heist movies are always an easy sell in Hollywood. People love a good caper, especially when there’s fast cars and lots of action (see the FAST & FURIOUS franchise if you don’t believe me). Another popular genre of films from Tinseltown is the disaster flick, anything involving man against the elements and a fight for survival, they almost always sell tickets. So combining the two seems like an obvious thing, and THE HURRICANE HEIST does just that. This is certainly not the first time we’ve seen this kind of movie (HARD RAIN comes to mind, and maybe SNAKE EYES, though the latter is more of a murder mystery set against a hurricane), but this one looks like it could be the most intense so far. The film is directed by Rob Cohen (THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS) and is written by Jeff Dixon and Scott Windhauser. It stars Maggie Grace, Toby Kebbell, Ralph Ineson, Randy Couture, Melissa Bolona, and Jamie Andrew Cutler. This is being released by Entertainment Studios, which is Byron Allen’s company, and they had tremendous success with last year’s shark thriller 47 METERS DOWN. When the hurricane blows up into a lethal CATEGORY 5 storm and their well-made plans go awry, they find themselves needing a vault code known only by one Treasury Agent (Maggie Grace), a need that turns murderous. But the Treasury agent has picked up an unlikely ally, a meteorologist (Toby Kebbell) terrified of hurricanes but determined to save his estranged brother kidnapped by the thieves. He uses his knowledge of the storm as a weapon to win in this non-stop action thriller ride charged with adrenaline throughout.
