Get ready for some serious eye candy. At first glance, some might think Disney’s A WRINKLE IN TIME looks kind of crazy and perhaps a bit silly, akin to something like STARDUST or maybe even CLOUD ATLAS… not that I disliked either of those films, but their quirky visuals seemed to turn off a lot of potential viewers. Sometimes audiences just can’t loosen up enough to give artsy material a proper chance. But with Ava DuVernay (SELMA) behind the camera as director, and a cast that includes Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Bellamy Young, Mindy Kaling, Zach Galifianakis, Michael Peña, Daniel MacPherson, Rowan Blanchard, Levi Miller, Oprah Winfrey, André Holland, and introducing Storm Reid, this ensemble alone makes this worth a bit more investigation. This also isn’t the first time Disney has taken a crack at this story, as they produced a two-part A WRINKLE IN TIME television event in 2003, though the biggest name in that version was Alfre Woodard (seriously, I could name the entire rest of that cast and you probably wouldn’t know ANY of them). Check out another new trailer for the 2018 version, which definitely looks expensive and complex. Think this has the potential to be a major blockbuster? Those two movies I mentioned earlier, STARDUST and CLOUD ATLAS, were not financial hits but have since been considered overlooked gems. As for this latest ambitious cinematic effort, we suppose TIME will tell. This new trailer features the song “Scars to Your Beautiful” by Canada’s very own Alessia Cara.

Following the discovery of a new form of space travel as well as Meg’s father’s disappearance, she, her brother, and her friend must join three magical beings – Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which – to travel across the universe to rescue him from a terrible evil.

A WRINKLE IN TIME opens March 9, 2018
