I’m not entirely sure I’m on board with the strange love for THE ROOM. Tommy Wiseau’s painfully awkward and at times highly uncomfortable-to-watch movie has been widely embraced as some sort of cinematic art exhibit, but many in the business would probably tell you it’s just a really bad movie. And not Ed Wood “bad” where there was something deep behind it in spite of the low budget… no, this was just poorly acted, poorly directed and overall cringe-worthy on a level few have ever experienced. But despite that, Tommy Wiseau’s widely debated work is now being immortalized in a biopic of sorts with Dave Franco, James Franco, Seth Rogen, Ari Graynor, Alison Brie, Jacki Weaver, and Josh Hutcherson starring. We also get glimpses below of both Judd Apatow, Melanie Griffith and Sharon Stone, who are just some of the famous faces in the supporting cast which also includes Zac Efron, Kate Upton, Zoey Deutch, Lizzy Caplan, Kristen Bell, Adam Scott, Bryan Cranston, Dylan Minnette, Megan Mullally, June Diane Raphael, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Sugar Lyn Beard, J.J. Abrams, Zach Braff, Hannibal Buress, Jason Mantzoukas, Jason Mitchell, Randall Park, Erin Cummings, Casey Wilson, Brett Gelman, Paul Scheer, and Jerrod Carmichael… oh, and the real life Greg Sestero and Tommy Wiseau apparently have cameos too. James plays Wiseau rather convincingly in THE DISASTER ARTIST, and also directs the film, which looks to take us behind the scenes of THE ROOM in what will surely be a funny experience. This is based on the book of the same title by Greg Sestero (who starred in THE ROOM) and hits theaters this December. Check out the newest trailer and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
Based on Greg Sestero’s best-selling tell-all about the making of Tommy Wiseau’s cult–classic disaster piece THE ROOM (“The Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made”), THE DISASTER ARTIST is a hilarious and welcome reminder that there is more than one way to become a legend– and no limit to what you can achieve when you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing.
