When John Lasseter created CARS and delivered it to theaters in 2006, it became an instant favorite with many, and was the first Pixar movie outside of TOY STORY to spawn a sequel, though CARS 2 wasn’t received nearly as well when it hit – many felt the follow-up just came across as a soulless cash grab. CARS 3 may make up for that, and from the looks of the new trailer below, things are going in a much more serious direction. The third installment is directed by Brian Fee, who has worked on other Pixar movies, including both previous CARS entries, and is now part of Pixar’s Senior Creative Team. Owen Wilson is back as the voice of Lightning McQueen, joined by the voices of Armie Hammer, Nathan Fillion (who you hear prominently at the start of this trailer), Kerry Washington, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shalhoub, Margo Martindale, Chris Cooper, Lea DeLaria, Cheech Marin, Jenifer Lewis, Katherine Helmond, Paul Dooley, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and of course Larry the Cable Guy. Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician with her own plan to win, inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet, and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
