THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN hits theaters this weekend from STX Entertainment, and it already has the makings of an instant high school classic. The studio is marketing it as a comedy, but there’s elements of the film that go into some serious and pretty heavy territory… yet all of it is easy to relate to for anyone who has dealt with typical high school life. Hailee Steinfeld stars in the film playing an awkward high school girl trying to figure out love and her own dysfunctional family. Her performance is perfection, probably the best of her young career so far. Steinfeld make a name for herself in The Coen Bros.’ remake of TRUE GRIT, and has since starred in ENDER’S GAME and PITCH PERFECT 2, and will soon be seen in PITCH PERFECT 3. Last fall she rose to super-stardom in the music scene with her album HAIZ, which caught everyone by surprise including her. It’s safe to say Hailee is someone you want to watch closely as her career is likely just getting started, but it’s already been quite impressive. I had a chance to sit down with her during her recent Dallas press stop, and you can see that interview below. I was also lucky enough to host her Q&A for the film, which ended up being a lot of fun. Make sure to see this movie, hitting theaters this weekend. And yes, I really did catch that bug in the middle of our chat.
