Marvel Comics’ Ghost Rider has been the subject of not one, but two big screen adventures starring Nicolas Cage and it’s fair to say that even the best of the two was barely watchable. After his last outing from CRANK directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor failed to even live up to the abysmal first outing, it was no surprise that Sony gave up the rights and let them revert back to Marvel.
Many had speculated that with the success of the darker, street heroes on Netflix, we might see some additional darker characters like Moon Knight and yes, Ghost Rider come to the platform. However, as of Friday morning, we now know that Ghost Rider is indeed coming to Marvel TV, but it will be ABC, not Netflix who will get him.

Now, while Nicholas Cage played Johnny Blaze, a motorcycle stunt man who turned into the spirit of vengeance, the small screen version will cover the 4th iteration of the Ghost Rider from the comics, Robbie Reyes played by TRUE DETECTIVE‘s Gabriel Luna.
In the comics, Robbie drives a car, not a motorcycle and to help build the excitement, Marvel and the cast of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. unveiled his car at the convention:

Head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb had this to say about the upcoming series and the introduction of Robbie Reyes / Ghost Rider:
Season 4 will unquestionably be the series’ biggest, most ambitious story yet, and it all begins with the introduction of one of our greatest legacy characters in Ghost Rider. When the Spirit of Vengeance rides into S.H.I.E.L.D., it’ll change everything.
What are your thoughts on this addition to the S.H.I.E.L.D TV show? Do you think it is a good move to use Robbie instead of Johnny? Who else would you like to see come to Marvel TV? Let us know below.
