‘It’s What We DO’: First Full SUICIDE SQUAD Trailer Packs A Punch

I want to preface this with two statements: I am not a dyed-in-the-wool comics fan. I will read the occasional title for a while, then lose interest. So, the Superhero film surge is perfect for me, because I don’t bring a lot of pre-conceived notions about the characters or borrowed plots.

Second – every piece of marketing for David Ayer’s SUICIDE SQUAD, from the promotional stills to the teaser trailers, have done absolutely nothing to pique my interest in the film. At all. At All.

Tonight, I’m here to show you that when I’m wrong, I’ll admit it. Ayer’s got something, here. Something (if the trailer can actually be believed) pretty fun.

Without question, the hook is with Smith and Robbie prior to the film’s release. Smartly, Warner Brothers is still keeping Jared Leto’s Joker behind wraps for the most part. The remainder of the characters are a blur in the trailer, so let’s hope you actually give a damn about more than Harley and Deadshot in the flick.

Also, could this be a crack in the DC/WB mandate that all of their comic book films be dour, serious and “grounded in reality”? We can only hope.

A secret government agency run by Amanda Waller, named A.R.G.U.S creates a task force comprised of super villains, the “Suicide Squad”. They are assigned to execute dangerous tasks in exchange for shorter prison sentences.

Starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, Viola Davis, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Adam Beach, Jay Hernandez, and Karen Fukaharpa, and written and directed by David Ayer, SUICIDE SQUAD debuts August 5.
