Marvel Studios isn’t wasting any time introducing new superheroes to their already successful film lineup, and one that many have be anxiously waiting for is DOCTOR STRANGE. Benedict Cumberbatch will play the title character, and now thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we get our first official look at him in costume. This should be interesting as it’s the for magical superhero from the Marvel Comics line to headline a film, and could really open the door to some cool supporting roles. Whatever the end result of the film, it should be one of the most interesting projects to be released by the studio, as Strange doesn’t exactly follow a traditional comic book path. Cumberbatch told the magazine he was a little nervous about playing the Sorcerer Supreme:
I’m still in the infancy of learning all that. It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.
The supporting cast includes Tilda Swinton as Strange’s mentor “The Ancient One”, Chiwetel Ejiofor as his nemesis Baron Mordo, along with Rachel McAdams and Michael Stuhlbarg. But the magazine also confirmed another cast member when announcing Mads Mikkelsen would be playing an unidentified bad guy that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige had this to say about:
Mads’ character is a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect. [He] believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through.
Scott Derrickson (SINISTER) is directing the film, which is scheduled to be released November 4, 2016. Are you excited about DOCTOR STRANGE? Tell us in the comments.
