THE X-FILES is coming back to FOX in January of 2016… or maybe sooner, thanks to a little bit of leaked info which you can read about here. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise the roles that made them famous, and FOX teased the new six-episode revival during GOTHAM and MINORITY REPORT. You can see those two teases combined below. Here’s what we know – Mitch Pileggi is back as “Skinner”, and Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund and Bruce Harwood also return as The Lone Gunmen. One of the biggest reveals in the teaser here is the voice of William B. Davis aka “The Smoking Man” from the original series. There’s obviously some flashbacks in the story here, so will The Smoking Man only appear as a voice in flashback, or somehow show up in other ways? Joel McHale and Robbie Amell also star. Speaking of The Lone Gunmen, actor Dean Haglund recently appeared on the Australian news show Studio 10 very carefully spilling a few additional details about the show, including FOX letting them go past the six episode commitment to a seventh episode (!), and that the network may be showing an episode earlier than planned “sometime before 2016.” He also talks briefly about whether or not he’ll be sporting the same look he used to have on the series, but watch the video if you want to hear it for yourself. Are you as excited as we are about this return? Let us know in the comments.

Thirteen years after the original series run, the next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES will be a thrilling, six-episode event series helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history. Production on THE X-FILES event series is set to begin in summer 2015.

THE X-FILES originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny), as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.

And here’s Dean Haglund (of The Lone Gunmen fame) on Studio 10:
