Seems like every decade or so Hollywood delivers another take on the classic Mary Shelley tale of Frankenstein. This year the honor goes to 20th Century Fox’s VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN, which stars James McAvoy as Doctor Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe as his assistant Igor. The basic story is still there, but this feels more like a buddy piece than what we’re used to seeing with the classic tale. Obviously Igor is not the hideous hunched-over archetype this time around, and it’s easy to see how people could compare this to Guy Ritchie’s take on SHERLOCK HOLMES, or perhaps something like HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS. It’s directed by Paul McGuigan (LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN) from a screenplay by Max Landis (CHRONICLE and AMERICAN ULTRA). The supporting cast includes Jessica Brown Findlay, Andrew Scott and Freddie Fox. Take a look at the trailer and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe star in a dynamic and thrilling twist on a legendary tale. Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Radcliffe) share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation.

VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN opens November 25, 2015
