Seems like every decade or so Hollywood delivers another take on the classic Mary Shelley tale of Frankenstein. This year the honor goes to 20th Century Fox’s VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN, which stars James McAvoy as Doctor Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe as his assistant Igor. The basic story is still there, but this feels more like a buddy piece than what we’re used to seeing with the classic tale. Obviously Igor is not the hideous hunched-over archetype this time around, and it’s easy to see how people could compare this to Guy Ritchie’s take on SHERLOCK HOLMES, or perhaps something like HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS. It’s directed by Paul McGuigan (LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN) from a screenplay by Max Landis (CHRONICLE and AMERICAN ULTRA). The supporting cast includes Jessica Brown Findlay, Andrew Scott and Freddie Fox.
