If you’re like me, you love National Lampoon’s VACATION. It’s more than just a comedy classic, I consider it a sort of comedic rite of passage – if you experienced it and it changed how you looked at adult humor in movies, then you “got” what it was going for. It’s also a film I love to revisit whenever possible. Sure, the sequels weren’t always as good, though I do have a soft spot for CHRISTMAS VACATION, but the original remains my favorite Chevy Chase movie. The idea of doing an update… sequel… reboot, whatever, could make fans of the first film a little nervous, but it’s coming to theaters this summer. Ed Helms plays Rusty Griswold as an adult, wanting to take his family to that magical place that changed his teenage life – Wally World. In the director chair this time in HORRIBLE BOSSES writing team John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who also wrote the screenplay, which is based on the characters and events that took place in the original movie… Chevy Chase is back as Clark Griswold, and Beverly D’Angelo returns as Ellen Griswold, though we’re guessing they’re not in it that much. Christina Applegate plays Rusty’s wife, Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebbins plays their kids, and Leslie Mann plays Rusty’s sister Audrey. Oh, and Audrey’s husband in the film is a very well-endowed Chris Hemsworth. Check out the red band trailer below. This one feels a little more crass than the original film, but these days R-rated comedies don’t shy away from gross-out humor. Let’s just hope it can capture some of the charm of the 1983 film. Following in his father’s footsteps and hoping for some much-needed family bonding, a grown-up Rusty Griswold (Ed Helms) surprises his wife, Debbie (Christina Applegate), and their two sons with a cross-country trip back to America?s “favorite family fun park,” Walley World.
