I have a soft spot in my heart for the original A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET films, probably because I remember as a young lad going to the theater to see the first movie, and finding a new horror hero in Robert Englund’s Freddy Krueger.  Wes Craven created a genuinely memorable icon with that character, and let’s face it, through the years the many sequels were definitely hit or miss, but you had to love Krueger… which is a direct result of Englund’s abilities.  Now Michael Bay (after re-inventing THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and FRIDAY THE 13th franchises) has set his sights on bringing the claw-handed hero to a new generation, and following his own revamp formula in making things much more serious than many are used to.  Jackie Earle Haley (who should be called The Comeback Kid) takes on the mantle of Freddy this time around, with a much darker turn on the character.  The film co-stars Kellan Lutz (THE TWILIGHT SAGA), Thomas Dekker (THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES), Kyle Gallner (JENNIFER’S BODY), Clancy Brown (HIGHLANDER), and Connie Britton (FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS… and my dreams).

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET opens nationwide April 30, 2010
